Virginia College Nursing Programs

Licensed practical nurses (LPNs), also called licensed vocational nurses (LVNs), care for patients under the direct supervision of physicians and registered nurses. They work in hospitals, nursing homes, home health care agencies, physicians’ offices, and many other healthcare facilities.

And they are an in-demand (and valued) healthcare profession.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, “[e]mployment of LPNs is expected to grow by 21 percent between 2008 and 2018, must faster than the average for all occupations,” and a similar growth rate is expected for registered nurses. As healthcare needs grow, moreover, there will be a need for highly trained RNs and LPNs, the kind that graduate from Virginia College’s Nursing Program.

About Virginia College

Virginia College was founded in 1983. This private college offers diploma, associate, and baccalaureate degree program which students earn either online, on-campus, or a combination of the two.

There are currently 14 campus locations, though not all degree programs are offered at all campus branches.

Virginia College is also accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) which guarantees that students receive an education that meets or exceeds industry standards.

Nursing Programs

Associate of Science in Health Sciences—Practical Nursing Concentration combines practical nursing training—both in the classroom and in clinical practice—with 24 credit hours of liberal arts courses. This provides a well-rounded education that is so important for an LPN. This degree program, however, is only available at its Pensacola, Florida Campus.

Associate Degree in Nursing provides the skills necessary for you to become either a licensed practical nurse or a registered nurse. This degree program is currently available in Alabama at the Birmingham, Montgomery, and Mobile campuses.

After you Graduate…

To become an LPN, you must graduate from a State-approved training program in practical nursing and pass the National Council Licensure Examination which is administered by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. Virginia College’s Associate of Science in Health Sciences—Practical Nursing Concentration will give you the training you need to pass this comprehensive exam and to become a licensed practical nurse.

To become a registered nurse, you must have achieved a minimum of an associate degree in nursing and pass the National Council Licensure Examination for RNs. The Associate Degree in Nursing, offered by Virginia College, not only meets this educational requirement, but will give you the training and knowledge needed to pass the exam and to become a registered nurse.

But earning an associate degree at Virginia College does more than just help you to become a licensed practical nurse or a registered nurse. It also gives you the option to continue your education at a later point, if you choose to do so. For instance, if you decide that you would like to pursue a bachelor’s degree in nursing, many of the credits that you earned for your associate degree can be applied toward your bachelor’s degree as well. This feature will shorten the length of time needed to earn a bachelor’s degree.

So what have you got to lose? Contact Virginia College and begin training for your dream career—nursing.
